movie review: 50 first dates

50 First Dates

Nothing great to write about here. The typical feel good chic flick. Set on the islands of Hawaii, Drew Barrymore plays a local island girl who, after a bad accident, looses her ability to preserve short term memory and forgets every day as soon as she goes to sleep. Her dad, brother and other island locals help her stay happy by replaying the same day again and again. Adam Sandler, who likes to show female tourists a good time, see’s her and falls in love with her. The catch? Every day he has to make her fall in love with him all over again. However, its really interesting to see all the ways that he tries.

movie review: the darwin awards

The Darwin Awards

Based on the awards given post-humously to people who find the most creative way to die, the darwin awards is an interesting mix of comedy, love and good old fashioned time pass. The plot is based on an ex profiler for the SFPD, Micheal Burrows, who got kicked off the force for letting a serial killer escape. During his day job, micheal was interested in following the darwin awards, and once off the force, he decides to profile cases of possible darwin awards for an insurance company potentially saving them millions in liability. As part of his deal with the company, he has to partner with a claims investigator, and travel around the country. His travels take him to many interesting cases where he puts his profiling abilities to use to investigate how the crime had originally occurred.

Oh and micheal has a rare disorder. He faints at the sight of blood! Which is why he got kicked off the force in the first place, he punched the serial killer, blood came out of his nose and micheal fainted, while the killer ran off.

And there’s a university student (played by fezz from that 70s show) making a documentary on his life!

the assignment

“trust me, it’s better this way”

“really? Are you sure about that?”

“yes, I’m positive…”

She walked away, knowing it was no use trying to convince him anymore…

It was due in the morning and they were still bickering about the contents. It was going to be a long night ahead.

movie review: the departed

The Departed

This movie, i was forced into buying by a friend who just couldnt stop praising it. This coming from a guy who has a 300+ movie collection! And boy was i glad i did. Again, this movie is not for the faint hearted! Blood and gore runs amok! Till the very end it keeps you on edge, like you’re sitting on a roller coaster. The plot has so many twists and turns.

The story revolves around the FBI trying to bring down a mob boss. This particular mob boss, however, has a mole inside the FBI who tips him off and therefore he doesn’t get caught. So the FBI places its own mole inside the mob boss’s organization. The problem starts when both the FBI and the mob boss discover that they have moles and try to flush them out.

Leonardo di caprio, again gives a full thumbs up performance, pulling off the role without a hitch.

movie review: blood diamond

Blood Diamond

The good thing about this movie is the cinematography. They have managed to capture the war torn nature of Sierra Leone perfectly. (This coming from someone who has not seen a war torn area apart from on TV). Leonardo Di Caprio is simply amazing, and has come a long way from his titanic days. He can deliver a stunning, heart capturing performance without making it seem as if he’s trying. The family drama, which plays out during the movie is heart wrenching! The scenes are enough to make you want to jump up and do something to help them.

The only down point i think here is the length of the movie, which clocks well over 2 hours. At the end, you pretty much start hating diamonds and remember to ask where they come from the next time you go diamond shopping. That point definitely hit home here.

silence is gold

Its final now, i’ve started disliking my roomie.

*note: this post (and others in this new category) will definitely contain very colorful and obsene language! you are requested to please turn away if you are in anyway offended by such langauge. from this line onwards, i will not be held liable for anything related to this angry.*

Over the last week, i spent more time at home that i’ve ever done.. and had made a deal to myself that i’ll try to get along with my roomie better. I tried being nice with him, share stuff with him, take him out to dinner whenever i would go etc etc. Things were looking better…..

till yesterday!

you see, my roomie (God help him! really!!) has a really irritating habit of cribbing about everything, and then wondering why everything bad has to happen to him (karma?). Yesterday, he was cribbing about why movies have to have so much skin showing! Now that comment, in itself wasn’t bad.. but he was watching Sin City, and he knew it would have skin show in it, and yet he was watching and cursing!

I made a comment about how he was being a hypocrite, and that if he couldn’t handle it, then stop watching such movies in the first place. That set him off into a tirade about “how do you know i’m a hypocrite, you’re not god!” (yea.. i’m not, but i’m human with ears and a brain and tired of u mouthin off everything you come in contact with asshole!!) and the next line which really got to me, “you’re not mature enough to keep your bad moods to yourself, i have a friend like that, and he’s not socially successful at all, and i dont know how are you successful socially, no wait, only you say your successful and you’re wrong!” (now that really got me mad!!!!) fucking idiot!!

So now my dear roomie… the whole deal about being nice to you is over….. beware!

movie review: 300

PPH suggested i write movie reviews for the ones i’ve seen in the last couple of days, so here goes nothing!

300

Absolutely one of the best movies i’ve seen in a very long time! The plot revolves around 300 soldiers from sparta defending their homeland against the persian invaders. This movie is by no means for the faint hearted, with lots of blood and gore and severred body parts. One of the best lines from the movie was the king saying “theres no reason we cant be civil” while his soldiers were killing off the remaining surviving persian warriers by stabbing them in the heart.

The movie is very aesthetically done, some may say even artistically, but the only thing it does is to highten the effect of each scene. And once the fighting scenes begin, you cant even sit straight in your seat! they’re that addicting! Definitely a must watch!

update: i mistakenly named this movie, “last stand of 300″which i later discovered is a TV series based around the same event. thankyou clearout for clearing this up :)

wah wah bhai! aap ka to jawab nahi!

That’s what i say now to the totally oblivious, waste of blood cells, poor excuse for being alive human beings who cross my path everyday trying to

a) be killed by me
b) get me to bump them from behind
c) get me to hit their cars so they can claim insurance?!
d) just generally irritate the hell out of me!!

As you can imagine, this post goes out to all the dumbasses on karachi’s roads!

Now i know why people from the ‘other side of the bridge’ are so frickinge edgy! They have to deal with God knows how many idiots on a daily basis! Just this morning, this motorcylist (they’re the worst) stopped without warning right in front of me! Why? to unload his passenger! Must’ve been a mini bus driver at some point! I swear i was about to run him over! On top of that, he had the gall to turn back and stare at me like it was my fricking fault!

Then we have the other motorcyclists who dont know how to park their bikes, and leave them with their tails sticking out on the road! The place where i work has a lot of people coming in on bikes, and they’re packed together so tight its not even funny! one slip and its a complete domino effect! One of these days.. i just might do that!

So trying to be the calm rationale person that i am, i try not to curse at them, nor say bad things (slimes of the earth!!!! on wait.. did i say that out loud?) about them, so i just repeat the above line and go on my merry way.

One of these days……….. just one of these days…….

why am i not travelling?

Someone please answer this question for me!!! i desperately need to get out of this city! I swear its eating me aliveeeee!!

Umm.. okay, that was a bit too much drama. It isn’t eating me :P just that i really wanna travel again. The travelogue category on this blog has been dormant too long.

And i’m not loosing weight, nor interested in it either. So that category is going to the dogs too….
