car troubles yet again

A long long time ago, in a blog far far away.. i started a series called POC. Now, POC can mean different things to different peoples, but here it meant just one thing.

PIECE OF CRAP!

Thats right! The idea was, that at different times, different gadgets in my life held that title for reasons none other than pissing the hell out of me. As such, even people held the title of POC from time to time.

Today, the trusty old car took the title back! After months of being friendly and smooth and trusty, it decided to get back in the race for being POC. I’m not at all happy to say, it has won! *sigh*

The radiator fan has decided to come off, leaving the engine with no way to cool itself. Meaning i have a very hot car on my hands. I found the defect last nite when i was parking at home, and meant to goto the mechanics first thing in the morning. This morning, i totally forgot about it, and drove to the office. When i got here… it started making strange noises reminding me of the fact that indeed there was no cooling going on inside. Thankfully though, the AC fan, located right behind the radiator fan, was working and i had the AC on full, which kind of prevented the car from going into overburn and me with a PO(S)C.

Now, this para goes out to all those who are going to say “its your fault, you didn’t remember”. A POC qualifying candidate has to do only one thing..
“piss me off” even if its my fault. (My life my rules :p haha).

Called the mechanic this evening, hope it gets fixed without any additional problems.

the khoj for makhan - lessons learned

Sometimes, even the most mundane things end up being interesting. That’s the story of my life. Yesterday, while at the hospital with my chachi, there was a request (order?) for some makhan. Being the facilitator that i am in these situations, it naturally came upon me to acquire it.

  • I learned that day that something as common as makhan can also be difficult to acquire.

The places near ziauddin hospital have no access to butter of any sort!! Which is strange since it is inhabited by phatans and butter is very much part of their diet.

  • I also learned that i have forgotten the art of walking!

First i went to the general stores in the vicinity, feeling awkwardly out of place in (mostly) phatan dominated area, where violence is supposed to be the order of the day. The first place i came to had only some local brand margarine. No go.. so i turn back and goto the next one, which was over half a kilometer away. When i got there, i was informed that they only had blue band margarine as well as no other distributor came to that area. Imagine! Five general stores, and not one of them had butter.

So eventually, i did what i usually do in the first place, and for some unimaginative reason did not at this particular instance (i actually wanted to walk), took the car out, went to a place i knew 3 kilometers away, got 15 rupee worth of butter and then came back.

  • Lesson: Such is the price of living in the big city. A 15 rupee butter stick ends up costing rs. 30 if u factor in fuel.

But in the end, the look on chachi’s face when she got to have the butter was worth every kilometer.

  • And on a completely irrelevant note, I also learned my chachi and chacha love pineapple milkshake from hyder juice spot on sindhi muslim :p

the provider

Another test, another facet of the personality revealed. Quite accurate if i do say so myself. Thanks to PsycheD for leading the way.

Mansoor, your destiny is to be a Provider

Whether you know it or not, this is the role that is most in tune with who you are at your core. As a Provider, you have a genuine nurturing concern for the welfare of others and you’re eager to serve them. You can recognize exactly what people need and your friendly, helpful, social nature makes them feel comforted. With your kind and generous heart, you are personable, talkative, and outward with your emotions, and your openness and sensitivity makes you concerned about the way others view you. Along these lines, be careful not to blame yourself when things go wrong. You cannot prevent bad things from happening, even though your tendency to be orderly with a strong sense of right and wrong may lead you to believe you can. Accept that you do what you can to take care of things and that this will get you far in the world.

Get your own results! Take the test here.

magic

I

“I was wondering what would you say to getting a bahu?” he asked his mother. “Beta, your happiness is the most important thing for me! But dont u think you should complete your goals first! Then think about marriage?” she replied knowing the motherly way that his crush would bring her down.. “trust me, when you meet her.. u’ll just walk upto her, say hi and it will be like magic”

II

“My parents are really serious about getting me hitched you know. They’ve got rishtas lined up all over the place” she said to her best friend. He just nodded and smiled… thinking of the possibilities that never were to be.. “There’s this one guy, he’s a surgeon! Just think! All the money and none of the husband! haha! And this other one is a…” she droned on..

III

“I have to use the rest room” he interrupted her.. he had to get away.. the thoughts were overwhelming.. he was about to let her get away.. she was his happiness yet she’ll be with someone else… he started running towards to restroom, just as he rounded the corner he bumped into her and notes scattered everywhere.. the perfect movie moment.. he bent down to help her.. “hey hi! sorry about this..” she smiled.. and it was like magic!

free money!

Lately i’ve been getting a lot of offers for free money!

It appears that i’m really really lucky! I get atleast one email a day saying i’ve won some lottery or other! One day its the UK National Lottery, then its the Scandinavian Lottery.. I’ve had winnings from Coca Cola Lottery, Yahoo International Lottery and the Honda Lottery! On some days, i get emails from a childless widow in Saskatchewan or someplace, asking me to contact her lawyers anad get the money left to her by her husband and on her behalf to distribute in charities since she can neither speak nor see! What a lucky streak i’ve been having lately!! yayyyy~!

*feigning ecstatic look on my face*

Now i start the reason i’m writing this post. If you get an email from someone you dont know, claiming u’ve won obscene amounts of money and you need to contact a facilitator or someone to get it, never… i repeat.. never go for it! These people will get your personal information, and either get your money (if you have any) or get huge amounts of loans on your name (and credit history) and disappear, leaving the collection agencies coming to your place and breaking your legs! Oh, and the excuse ‘i didn’t do it, it was someone else’ doesnt work. These collection people dont see names, faces or humans. They just see a name and a balance in front of it.

The first couple of emails you get can be very enticing! Questions such as ‘What if its true?’. ‘What if i really can get all that money without doing anything?’ pop up in the mind. Wild ideas to spend it in the most outrageous fashions haunt the mind.  The temptation to check the validity of this offer can be very great! However, you must resist! There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY! Read the para above for reasons as to why!

Incase you didn’t get that.. here’s the moral one more time…

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY!

of burns…

the last 30 days have been surrounded by burns!

first it was my nani, she slipped and her hand got burnt. She was rushed to AKU where she was being treated before being administered at home by mami’s, and thankfully is recovering nicely

then it was my father. thankyou all for your prayers. it helped! my father is recovering very well and there will be no scarring mashallah

and now, its another dear person, who slipped while carrying a boiling hot bucket of water and suffered 20% burns to her arms, chest and face. please pray for her too. All of your prayers came in very handy with my father, and i hope they will in this case too..

how life changes in a blink of an eye…

karma

Over the years, one of the basic beliefs that i’ve developed is karma. Karma, being an sanskrit word, means ‘action, effect, destiny’. It is the sum of a person’s actions, regarded as determining that person’s future states of existence. In essense, it is cause and effect. A comedy series, “my name is earl” is completely devoted to this concept.

So howcome i’m talking about karma all of a sudden? Well, being that i was sick today, i had a lot of time to think things over. And realized, that i just cant do bad things to people. Doing tou door kee baat, i cant even think of doing them. Why? because the universe makes me even with that person as soon as possible. I say something really nasty to someone, even for the sake of fun, and the next thing you know, i’ll be choking on a glass of water! I say something bad about someone behind their back, and i’ll be the one in hot water with someone else. It all settles down immediately.

I extend this to good things as well. Today, i was starting to feel lonely, being at home all day, not talking with anyone (friend nor family) and out of the blue i get an SMS followed by a call from a dear friend. That reminded me i still have friends here who think of me. Then i went out for dinner and out of the blue met my cousin, who had come to the same place for dinner with his family. So i had dinner with them.

So i guess the point is… you do good, and good things happen to you. You do bad, and all hell breaks loose :-D

taken sick

*sigh* <pause for dramatic effect………… aaaannndd continue>

after a long time.. i’m sick again. yes.. after a really long time. Since i’m already sick, it doesn’t matter me tellin you that i haven’t been sick in a while.

This morning, couldn’t even get off the bed. So messaged my boss that i wont be coming till late. And thanks to damn murphy, he needed me there today. Not really needed me, just needed something updated which i had done. Thanks to my (ahem) forsight, i had that thing ready when i originally did the job, and told him how to do it. I think he was happy and the job got done, since i didn’t get a call again from work.

So i spent the whole day on my bed, watching movies i got yesterday. Yesterday, in a huge departure from normal, i rented three movies and then bought three more! (stay tuned for another shopping post btw) These movies have been entertaining me for the last 8 hours. At this time, i’m watching Grey’s Anatomy. Thanks PsycheD, since it was your reference which made me buy it in the first place.

Oh, and i was offline for the whole damn day! ME! Mr. Net Addict was offline! aarrgghh! The phone was dead the whole day which ofcourse meant no DSL. They finally got it fixed at 8 PM! The poor technician spent the whole day on it, only to find it was a problem from the exchang side, which took them five minutes to fix lol. Alls well that ends well though. Couldn’t do any work the whole day, but then couldn’t (or wouldn’t?) even if the net was working.

I’m still sick though :(

P.S. maybe have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning too. (who was recommended by my boss who had a similar problem). I haven’t been to the doctor’s in well over 10 years! I mean a doctor that i haven’t known personally and am not related too.
