Updated the blog skin

After a very long time, got around to updating my blogskin. I like the crayons header, it gives a rather funky look to the overall blog. The old look just wasn’t me anymore, it was too… sophisticated for my taste.

This time around, i’ve also added a lot of improvements in the forms of plugins to the blog. These are

1. Subscribe to comments via email
The biggest and best feature this time around, inspired by Green and Write, you can setup a reminder email, whenever someone posts a comment on the same post at my blog where you have posted, hence allowing you to keep in touch with the conversation.

2. Integration with Google Reader
I love google reader, infact, i love everything google, and use it extensively. I’ve got a great big reading list, and now thought i’d share it with all of you. My blogroll is now divided into two sections, Personal Blogs and Professional Blogs, which link to the blogs i follow on a daily basis. Also, there’s a section on Posts I Recommend, through which i will share with you those gems that i come across during my daily read. Lastly, i’ve integrated a small section of Google News, which sends out the top 5 stories containing the word Karachi instantly. Maybe i might add more news sections, but that is for later.

3. New Content
All features, skins and plugins are great, but a blog isn’t a blog without content. I’m thinking of a whole new range of content, and this time, promise to make time for all the improvements as well, so check back soon and often.

So you could say, this is Word of Mansoor 2.0 :p (not really, but what the heck)

yea baby! i’m bringing sexy baaaccckkk!!!

the provider

Another test, another facet of the personality revealed. Quite accurate if i do say so myself. Thanks to PsycheD for leading the way.

Mansoor, your destiny is to be a Provider

Whether you know it or not, this is the role that is most in tune with who you are at your core. As a Provider, you have a genuine nurturing concern for the welfare of others and you’re eager to serve them. You can recognize exactly what people need and your friendly, helpful, social nature makes them feel comforted. With your kind and generous heart, you are personable, talkative, and outward with your emotions, and your openness and sensitivity makes you concerned about the way others view you. Along these lines, be careful not to blame yourself when things go wrong. You cannot prevent bad things from happening, even though your tendency to be orderly with a strong sense of right and wrong may lead you to believe you can. Accept that you do what you can to take care of things and that this will get you far in the world.

Be

Update: PsyhceD suggested i put this up as a tag, and i think thats a good idea :D list down what you wanted to become at different points in your life, till today. Come up with atleast 5 points. To start things off, i tag PsyhceD, IcedMocha, FalsaQueen, HerbWoman, Extiinct, Untamed-Desires, UTP, Tanzila, Xill, and anyone else who reads this.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

At 5 years
an air-force pilot, an astronaut, rich and like my dad (all individual choices)

At 10 years
narrowed down to an air-force pilot

At 14 years
a computer geek, since i developed eye problems and air-force was out. Also, got my first computer around this time.

At 16 years
an engineer, welcome matric and back then, it was either engineer or doctor

At 18 years
a computer programmer, “oh so thats what that blue screen program is for!!” reffering to turboC back at the school computer lab.

At 22 years
a Project Manager or Development Manager with a large IT firm, graduation done with.. future prospects looking bright.

At 24 years
to be over with studies *sigh*, when my masters thesis is still not completed!! Also, no more project management for me.. i started my career from Consulting.

So what would i wanna *be* now? The answer, thanfully, got simpler. I want to be what i am

5(6) Worst things about me

I’ve been tagged!! Though somehow never got around to doing it… so here goes. Extiinct tagged me for five worst things, while FalsaQueen did for 6.

The 5(6) worst things about me.

1. Im extremely moody. I can be the best company you can have around to the worst person you’ll ever meet! Depends on what kind of mood i am at that instant.
2. Follows from the first, i can go from good mood to bad mood in a matter of seconds, but it takes a while (couple of hours to upto months at times) to go from bad to good.
3. I abhor exercising :S Somehow that does *not* seem like a good utilization of my time, much to the dissatisfaction of my mother.
4. I just *cannot* call people up ‘just to talk’, unless i have a spent hours bored out of my skull. Many people complain to me about this issue, and to all of them i have only one thing to say, im sorry, thats just not me. There was this one friend, to whom i said ‘we should get in touch’ in Oct 05, and finally called her (once) in Aug 06, put the phone down saying ‘ill call u later’ and have yet to do so. This at times extends to meeting up for coffee as well :P
5. I make a lot of assumptions based on observations which may or may not be accurate. Usually 2+2 does equal 4, but in somecases, it equals 64 or 1024 or even 1073741824.

and the last

6. I cannot talk on the phone for long periods of time (anytime lasting more than 5 minutes). Usually after the fourth sentence, im looking for reasons to cut the call. I try, and sometimes there are enough things to talk about to extend the call, but mostly, i try to keep it at 5. My phone bill, however, does not agree with this :S

So there goes! My list of worst things. I tag Umar Pirzada, Icedmocha, Xill and whoever else who’s left.

Firefox Users: Get to comment on blogger again!

Hey all firefox users (sorry, IE users are requested to close this post immediately).

After the success of my last greasemonkey script which automatically converted blogspot links to pkblogs (and subsequently inblogs) urls, i’ve written a new one which addresses the commenting problem we’re facing on blogger when accessing through either of the proxies.

The problem:
When accessing blogger through the proxy, they rewrite the comments URL by prefixing it with “http://www.pkblogs.com/files.php?file=”. This breaks the link, and subsequently the comment page does not open. I suspect it was put up to deal with blogger beta, but hey.. no ones perfect.

The workaround:
Now, if you wish to leave a comment, you had to manually edit the url to leave out the prefix part. Which is both cumbersome and irritating.

The solution:
Install this greasemonkey script and it’ll do the rewriting for you. No more problems while leaving your comments on blogger blogs. (Note: blogger beta commentbox might *still* not work).

Notes:
You do need the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox (version 0.6.4) to run this script. (Available for download from here).
This script is provided “as is” and i will not be responsible for any damage it might cause.

Installation Procedure:

1. Install Greasemonkey or make sure it is installed.
2. Open this link in firefox.
(or copy/paste this link in your browser http://wordofmansoor.com/wp-content/uploads/2007_01/allowcommentingonblogspo.user.js)
3. Click on Tools -> Install this Script
4. Thats it! Now all comment links, even on previous blogs will be usable.

Enjoy it! Comments/Suggestions would be highly appreciated.
