arz kya hai…

on popular demand, i present to you… a 70’s style shair!

okay, fine… so poetry really isn’t my forte. sue me :)

however, the start is exactly what i love about blogging and having that select group of people to interact with on here. its different, its exciting and its quite mind boggling at times. the creativity that blogging offers a person, whether you write about your personal life, your work, or even something you’re passionate about is something which just cannot be replaced.

creativity, i believe, is seriously what makes the world go round. its what makes life worth living, its what makes waking up each day and not knowing what lies ahead so much fun! creativity is essentially what life is. its change, its ruffling up the feathers, its a kaleidoscope…

and if nothing else, it provides for many of the interesting experiences that truly shape up what kind of a person you are. so go ahead, be creative! and whatever you do… dont ever let anyone judge you!

to put my money where my mouth is… here’s my stab at (creative) poetry… ala 70s style~

chahtay hain tumko, kyonkay chahna hee aata hai humko
per jaanay kyon, na chahtay bhee khona perta hai tumko
chahat hai mere, kay tum mein sama jaaon poorey tarah
phir kyon ye chahat mere le gaye tum say door itna?

Out with metblogs!

I’ve been associated with metblogs for over two years, consistently blogging local events in a manner which would consistent with the theme of the site.

Lately, however, they’ve lost their charm. For an organization which promotes ‘localization’, they’ve much to learn about what it means.

You simply cannot impose your will or your style onto the world at large, without taking in considerations local culture, traditions and norms. And of course, your local readership.

With the rollout of their new platform, the powers that be decided to impose commenter registration. Why? In answer to ‘flame wars’ which were happening in a few select cities. Karachi was one of them. But has the situation changed? No! The people who were flaming are still at it, now armed with accounts, they continue to molest authors, bash each other and be, in general, a rowdy lot.

Who’s affected? The casual reader, who could’ve become part of the commenting crowd, but is now turned off by the fact they will have to go through an ardous registration process, as well as remember yet another password!

Many other cities around the metblogs networks have also been crying out against this, on the forums, on the mailing lists and on their own blogs, but what does the HQ have to say?

Put up or get out!

Personally, i cannot give my time and writings to support an organization which seeks (in literal terms) to dominate their will onto others. In this fashion, they’ve literally become an ‘american’ business, rather than a global business.

I had fun while i was there, and have made a group of very good friends whom (inshallah) i’ll carry on with for life. However, i’ve chosen today to resign from the network and bid farewell to the insidious rulings of the clique which i no longer choose to be part of.

Good bye metblogs!

night out with the boy!

sometimes, the best kind of dinner is with family, just two of you, discussing events in your lives, and being carefree for that half hour!

yesterday, i took my brother out to dinner, and after a very long time, we bonded really well. before, it just used to be while driving back and forth.

we talked about our day, our jobs, the upcoming moves, car fixing and future ideas.

sometimes, i feel as if i’ve really neglected him and dont really know anything about him…

but then he comes up and surprises me with clear, thoughtful insights into the mysteries of life and i have to take a step back and think, he’s done really okay for himself.

at the end of the day, doesn’t matter what or how he does what he does, i still feel proud of calling him my brother!

.

.

.

on a side and totally unrelated note, why are call center operators at banks often named ‘laila’? and why do they have a sultry and seductive voice? especially if they’re working at a ‘islamic’ bank?

City hopping

Over the last two weeks, i’ve been city hopping. Going b/w karachi, lahore, islamabad and murree. Its been amazing! Some has been work, some has been vacation, and some has been just plain good fun.

I have also lost the writing acumen again! Either its because i’m busy, distracted or jus suffering from a writers block is something to be seen. But its gone… almost. I have so much to write about for this trip, yet…. somehow cannot manage to put it to words.

And i’ve got two tags and almost 8 blogwords now to complete! Better get to it… later y’all.

p.s.
This post was forced, beause i needed to get back in the ‘groove’. It was not meant to be readable or complaining. :)

wah wah bhai! aap ka to jawab nahi!

That’s what i say now to the totally oblivious, waste of blood cells, poor excuse for being alive human beings who cross my path everyday trying to

a) be killed by me
b) get me to bump them from behind
c) get me to hit their cars so they can claim insurance?!
d) just generally irritate the hell out of me!!

As you can imagine, this post goes out to all the dumbasses on karachi’s roads!

Now i know why people from the ‘other side of the bridge’ are so frickinge edgy! They have to deal with God knows how many idiots on a daily basis! Just this morning, this motorcylist (they’re the worst) stopped without warning right in front of me! Why? to unload his passenger! Must’ve been a mini bus driver at some point! I swear i was about to run him over! On top of that, he had the gall to turn back and stare at me like it was my fricking fault!

Then we have the other motorcyclists who dont know how to park their bikes, and leave them with their tails sticking out on the road! The place where i work has a lot of people coming in on bikes, and they’re packed together so tight its not even funny! one slip and its a complete domino effect! One of these days.. i just might do that!

So trying to be the calm rationale person that i am, i try not to curse at them, nor say bad things (slimes of the earth!!!! on wait.. did i say that out loud?) about them, so i just repeat the above line and go on my merry way.

One of these days……….. just one of these days…….

free money!

Lately i’ve been getting a lot of offers for free money!

It appears that i’m really really lucky! I get atleast one email a day saying i’ve won some lottery or other! One day its the UK National Lottery, then its the Scandinavian Lottery.. I’ve had winnings from Coca Cola Lottery, Yahoo International Lottery and the Honda Lottery! On some days, i get emails from a childless widow in Saskatchewan or someplace, asking me to contact her lawyers anad get the money left to her by her husband and on her behalf to distribute in charities since she can neither speak nor see! What a lucky streak i’ve been having lately!! yayyyy~!

*feigning ecstatic look on my face*

Now i start the reason i’m writing this post. If you get an email from someone you dont know, claiming u’ve won obscene amounts of money and you need to contact a facilitator or someone to get it, never… i repeat.. never go for it! These people will get your personal information, and either get your money (if you have any) or get huge amounts of loans on your name (and credit history) and disappear, leaving the collection agencies coming to your place and breaking your legs! Oh, and the excuse ‘i didn’t do it, it was someone else’ doesnt work. These collection people dont see names, faces or humans. They just see a name and a balance in front of it.

The first couple of emails you get can be very enticing! Questions such as ‘What if its true?’. ‘What if i really can get all that money without doing anything?’ pop up in the mind. Wild ideas to spend it in the most outrageous fashions haunt the mind.  The temptation to check the validity of this offer can be very great! However, you must resist! There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY! Read the para above for reasons as to why!

Incase you didn’t get that.. here’s the moral one more time…

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY!

taken sick

*sigh* <pause for dramatic effect………… aaaannndd continue>

after a long time.. i’m sick again. yes.. after a really long time. Since i’m already sick, it doesn’t matter me tellin you that i haven’t been sick in a while.

This morning, couldn’t even get off the bed. So messaged my boss that i wont be coming till late. And thanks to damn murphy, he needed me there today. Not really needed me, just needed something updated which i had done. Thanks to my (ahem) forsight, i had that thing ready when i originally did the job, and told him how to do it. I think he was happy and the job got done, since i didn’t get a call again from work.

So i spent the whole day on my bed, watching movies i got yesterday. Yesterday, in a huge departure from normal, i rented three movies and then bought three more! (stay tuned for another shopping post btw) These movies have been entertaining me for the last 8 hours. At this time, i’m watching Grey’s Anatomy. Thanks PsycheD, since it was your reference which made me buy it in the first place.

Oh, and i was offline for the whole damn day! ME! Mr. Net Addict was offline! aarrgghh! The phone was dead the whole day which ofcourse meant no DSL. They finally got it fixed at 8 PM! The poor technician spent the whole day on it, only to find it was a problem from the exchang side, which took them five minutes to fix lol. Alls well that ends well though. Couldn’t do any work the whole day, but then couldn’t (or wouldn’t?) even if the net was working.

I’m still sick though :(

P.S. maybe have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning too. (who was recommended by my boss who had a similar problem). I haven’t been to the doctor’s in well over 10 years! I mean a doctor that i haven’t known personally and am not related too.

SI(M)

Yesterday was good. I received the best news i’ve had in a while.

My father has been nominated for the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) yesterday for his services rendered for the state of Pakistan. The award will be conferred on 14th of August 2007. The letters SI(M) will be entered after his name for the coming years.

YAYYY!!!! Go Dad!!!

I’ve used to see him watching TV on the 14th August, military personnel being conferred some of the highest honors in the service, and wanting to be one of them too. This year, his dream will come true.

For the first time in my life, i actually shouted in joy! Here’s wishing a further illustrious career to you dad!

For the uninitiated, every year national awards are given to civil and military personnel services rendered in various fields. These awards comprise of five Orders.

These are
(1) The Order of Pakistan
(2) The Order of Shuja’at
(3) The Order of Imtiaz
(4) The Order of Quaid-i-Azam
(5) The Order of Khidmat

Each Order has four descending categories namely, Nishan, Hilal and Tamgha. The inter se seniority of the Awards, including the President’s Award for Pride of Performance, is as follows:

(1) Nishan-i-Pakistan
(2) Nishan-i-Shuja’at
(3) Nishan-i-Imtiaz
(4) Nishan-j-Quajd-j-Azarn
(5) Nishan-i-Khidmat
(6) Hilal-i-Pakistan
(7) Hilal-i-Shuja’at
(8) Hilal-i-Imtiaz
(9) Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam
(10) Hilal-i-Khidmat
(11) Sitara-i-Pakistan
(12) Sitara-i-Shuja at
(13) Sitara-i-Imtiaz
(14) President’s Award for Pride of Performance
(15) Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam
(16) Sitara-i-Khidmat
(17) Tamgha-i-Pakistan
(18) Tamgha-i-Shija’at
(19) Tamgha-i-Imtiaz
(20) Tamgha-i-Quaid-i-Azam
(21) Tamgha-i-Khidmat

random updates on life

Been away from office for the last couple of days… so no blogging :p

Haven’t put up a post on KMB in quite a while.. got new blood there, and really looking forward to reading what they have to write. I’ve taken the lead long enough, and now the others are taking it further just fine.

Got assigned to close a project…  The second in my short career so far. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come? Still, got a couple of weeks to do that.. so lets see.

Waiting for a surprise tomorrow, dad’s coming back.

Finished the art of living course, will write about why just about every human being on this planet should take the course! It has changed me in ways i never thought possible. Smiling is finally effortless :)

Grandparents leaving on thursday. Life is gonna be so different now.. it had revolved around them for so long…

I realized (just like many others before me, and many who will come after me) that i just dont wanna be ‘attached’ to any girl for the time being. Not as a girlfriend nor as a fiance. Bachelor life is just so much better. Can do so much.

I’ve been called a ladla from the one place i least expected it :p kinda made my day :$

still smiling :D

the ’story of her’ will come to an abrupt screeching halt. Not my decision, but absolutely the last decision i will respect. dont worry dear readers, i’ll have some other story up pretty soon.
